KTM is a team of professional engineers that partners with manufacturing companies to overcome challenges and deliver the custom design solution and the expertise you need for your project.
Our Products & Services
KTM utilizes a staff of registered mechanical engineers (PE) that are qualified in the design and analysis of advanced machines, fixtures, lifting systems, and mechanical structures. We design and analyze for sufficient strength, optimal mechanical performance, and safety in accordance with industry standards and governmental regulations.
Engineering Failure Analysis Services
Mechanical Failure & Forensic Analysis
Mechanical & Forensic Failure Analysis
KTM's engineering team has a wide range of mechanical engineering expertise. Often we have clients who need assistance conducting failure and forensic analysis of mechanical components. Our engineering team takes a holistic approach when conducting equipment failure analysis to determine the structural integrity of each custom machine, lift device or product.
Our failure analysis service relies on both hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to uncover flaws and shortcomings to ensure future designs safe and failures are understood so they can be avoided in the future. Mechanical engineering failure analysis is crucial for the safety of everyone and the longevity of future products. We've found that considering both static and dynamic analysis (whenever a system involves movement) can provide important information for increasing both design life and, even more important, safety.
Involve KTM Early in a Products Lifecycle
It is common for organizations to have great ideas for new or improved products but an incomplete sense of how to ensure that these products are sized to handle the required load capacities. Often manufacturers with years of practical experience have limited structural analysis capacities. Involving KTM Solutions early in the design process provides a reliable analysis that helps to avoid frustrating discoveries later in their project development.
A thorough analysis is required, which involves strength checks on several complex and expensive components. If undersized, these components could contribute to an unsafe product or lead to life cycle–costing issues.
Failure Analysis Pricing
KTM provides fixed price quotes for a varying level of analysis services:
Typical Cost $3,500 and higher dependent on scope and complexity*
KTM’s engineering staff holds Professional Engineering licenses in NC, SC, GA, FL, LA, MO, and WA
Specializes in aerospace tooling analysis, below-the-hook lifting devices and complex structures and assemblies
Results provided via a PE-stamped stress analysis report. KTM is capable of delivering stress reports in company-specific formats (such as Boeing D-doc format).
Stress report includes materials, loads, constraints, safety factors, loading diagrams, conclusion
*Typical cost estimates are based on KTM’s experience quoting projects across multiple industries. Many factors contribute to cost, such as complexity and reporting requirements. A 3D model or drawing and written scope of work (formal or informal) is required in order to receive a fixed price quote.
How KTM Can Assist
For each product, KTM Solutions engineers develop a comprehensive analysis approach. This approach often includes finite element models and hand calculations, demonstrating any flaws in the original design and if some of the components are significantly undersized. Drawing on the results of this analysis, we develop cost-effective solutions that improve the product's overall design. Ultimately, the result is an efficient design ready to provide years of reliable service.
The KTM Advantage
KTM Solutions’ engineers are well experienced in structural and mechanical analysis. While some analysts may simply accept the results from an FEA, KTM believes that these results should be validated to ensure that predicted results are accurate. For this reason, our engineers use backup calculations and testing as appropriate to affirm software results.
KTM’s professional engineers have experience working as a closely-knit and highly efficient team to provide total solutions. KTM understands that elegant design must also be supported by accurate calculations and be suitable for manufacturing. Pretty design that is easily manufactured but lacks durability or sufficient strength is never good practice. That’s why KTM Solutions utilizes a combination of classical analysis methods and computer-generated simulations to ensure that products are adequately designed to satisfy the usage requirements for the life of the system.
Although we provide turnkey design and manufacturing services, KTM’s professional engineers will apply proven analytical processes and tools to validate your designs as well. Or, if desired, we will work with you to structurally optimize your designs.
From initial concepts to final documentation, KTM’s goal is to help you achieve great results. Our structural analysts have the heart of a teacher, a unique ability of our technical staff. Our engineers will take time to explain in easily understood terms the results of any structural or mechanical analysis. Not only will you have the assurance that your products are designed properly, you’ll also have an understanding of the basic engineering behind the design.
